چکیده
River water and sediment embody environmental characteristics that give valuable management information. However, indexical chemometric appraisal of heavy metals (HMs) in river is very scarce Island countries including Fiji. In this research, forty-five fifteen samples from the Nakuvadra-Rakiraki River, Fiji were analyzed for appraising spatial distribution, pollution, source identification selected using coupling tools self-organizing map (SOM), compositional data analysis (CDA), quality indices. The mean concentration HMs increased order Cd < Co Pb Cu Zn Ni Cr Mn Fe water, respectively. outcomes enrichment factor, geo-accumulation index contamination factor varied spatially most polluted by Pb, Mn, Cu. potential ecological risk recognized Cd, as public health risks to surrounding communities. Based on SOM CDA, three sources (e.g., point, nonpoint lithological sources) two geogenic human-induced identified. patterns EWQI values revealed northern northeast zones studied area possess a high degree pollution. entropy weight indicated main pollutants degrading quality. This study gives baseline dataset combined eco-environmental measures river's pollution well contributes an inclusive global rivers.

Background and purpose: Heavy metal pollution is among the most serious environmental issues that is caused directly or indirectly through human activities or natural sources. Alagol wetland is one of the most important ecosystems in Iran which is affected by numerous agricultural and industrial development programs. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was performed in s...
متن کاملMineralogical and ecological assessment of heavy metals in the surface sediment of Maharlou Lake, Shiraz, Iran
Maharlou Lake, as the largest water body neighboring to the metropolis of Shiraz, plays a significant role in adjusting the ecosystem of the region. The objective of this study was to evaluate mineralogy and heavy metals enrichment in the surface sediments of the Maharlou Lake. The result showed a decreasing trend of heavy metals concentrations in studied region surface sediments as follows: Sr...
متن کاملAssessment of Heavy Metals Pollution in Water and Sediments of Djendjen River, North Eastern Algeria
Water and sediment samples have been collected from five different stations, located along Djendjen River between February and June, 2016 so that the concentrations of Cd, Ni, Zn, and Cu could be determined. The extent of the sediment pollution has been assessed, using the multiple pollution indices, namely Contamination Factor (CF), Pollution Load Index (PLI), and the geoaccumulation index (Ig...
